Orbital &
reconstructive.

The medical side of Dr. Ahn's work: thyroid eye disease, trauma, tearing, lid malposition, and tumors of the lids and orbit. Here, function comes first — and appearance is restored alongside it.

Note: Awaken Aesthetics is a cosmetic, self-pay practice. Functional and insurance-based cases like these are provided through Dr. Ahn's medical practice, San Pedro Eye Care. Reach out and we'll direct you to the right place.

When the eye's frame needs repair

Oculofacial surgeons are the specialists other physicians refer to when the problem sits in the eyelids, tear system, or the bony orbit around the eye. Some of this work is urgent; much of it is reconstructive — rebuilding what disease, trauma, or a previous surgery has disturbed.

Because Dr. Ahn is an ophthalmologist, every plan begins with protecting the eye itself: its surface, its movement, and your vision. Cosmetic outcome follows from getting the function right.

Conditions we treat

  • Thyroid eye disease (Graves') — bulging, retraction, orbital decompression
  • Eyelid malposition — ectropion (turning out) and entropion (turning in)
  • Tearing and blocked tear ducts — including DCR surgery
  • Eyelid and orbital trauma, fractures, and laceration repair
  • Eyelid lesions and skin cancers — removal and reconstruction
  • Anophthalmic socket care and prosthetic-eye fitting support

Our approach

Reconstruction is planned case by case, often in coordination with your ophthalmologist, dermatologist, or oncologist. Where cancer is involved, we work to clear it completely first, then rebuild the lid so it both looks right and protects the eye. The standard is a result that functions perfectly and looks like it was never disturbed.

Questions

Honest answers.

Do I need a referral?
Not necessarily, though many patients arrive referred by an ophthalmologist or dermatologist. You're welcome to request a consultation directly, and we'll coordinate with your other physicians as needed.
Where are these procedures done — and is insurance involved?
Functional and reconstructive cases are handled through Dr. Ahn's medical practice, San Pedro Eye Care, rather than the cosmetic Awaken Aesthetics practice. Many of these procedures are medically necessary; the San Pedro Eye Care team can review coverage with you there. Start by reaching out and we'll point you in the right direction.
Can function and appearance both be restored?
That is the aim of every reconstruction. We secure the eye's health and function first, then rebuild so the result looks natural and balanced with the other side.
What about thyroid eye disease specifically?
We manage the full course — from eyelid retraction repair to orbital decompression for bulging — and time surgery to your disease's activity for the most stable result.
